Happy 2007!

I didn’t send holiday cards this year. There was no smiling juryout family photo or even a greeting card wishing friends and family a merry Christmas or a happy Hanukkah. I didn’t even get my act together in time for the New Year’s cards, which provides the sender almost another full week of time to get to the post office for stamps. E- Cards seem too impersonal and usually end up in my bulk mail anyway; I don’t send them because most people don’t receive them. According to Hallmark, I’ve missed the card window for the next month until Groundhog’s day arrives or I decide that 2007 is the year I’m going to be celebrating National Mentoring Month. So instead of searching for a holiday to spur my social nature, I will write letters, make phone calls and send e-mails to all of the people that I normally only correspond with during this obligatory time of year. In an age where technology is prevalent in most (all?) aspects of life, and the pace of life continually speeds up (what would Einstein say about that?), again I will pledge to slow it down, by valuing and sustaining friendships and family relationships in old-fashioned person to person ways . Happy New Year!
